Esports Project
The research consortium with the University of Irvine, Seattle Public Library, University of Washington, North America Scholastic Esports Federation was conducted to investigate the best approach to help mental health for esports teen players.
This is the final prototype through the co-design process with youth esports players and coaches.
You can find it in Tabletop Simulator STEAM named TILTED.

Project Overview
The research has two goals:
1. Exploration: Better understand the toxic behaviors, cause of unstable emotion, struggling points. Through the co-design workshop, find the mental model for esport teen players.
2. Validation: Find the best approach to help esports teen players’ mental health. Thus, I planned and executed from the co-design workshop to assessment of the gameplay.

Key Insights
Through various design activities with esports teen players and coaches, we have researched the esports teen players’ characteristics and mental model of how they think about esports mental health.
#Esports Mental Health
(1)During the digital co-design session, the teen players need design tools to increase engagement or communication (team building and privacy).
(2)Among other activities, playing board card was the ultimate solution to close the gap to understand teen’s toxic knowledge and actual behavior.
(3)Playing toxicity board card cannot fully make the teen player to change their toxic behaviors, but we found that it could help to know each other in terms of team building.
